What phones will be able to upgrade to Android Pie

We present to your attention a complete list of devices to which you can set a new version of the operating system from Google.

Have you already heard about Android PIE? Very soon, all the owners of Android devices will want to upgrade to this version. Yes, yes, this world works. We always want to use only the latest new items. And when there is some update, we want to get it right now.

Unfortunately, the real world works a little differently. Almost all the phones released over the past 18 months will be able to upgrade to Android Pie, but some models will be able to receive an update only after Google will present the general public Android Q.

and although today update mobile devices to more "Fresh" versions of the OS is now much easier, it is still not the easiest and fast process. About how he comes to talk another time, today we are interested in another question. Namely: what phones will be able to upgrade to Android Pie in the next 12 months.

predict something associated with Android - whole science

predicted something related to Android is not so easy As it may seem at first glance. Almost a third of the updates are guessed without any particular problems, but as for the rest, the chances here are the same as when the coin is updown - 50 to 50. Apparently, the manufacturers of smartphones focus on only some models, whose mention most often fill in the press.

Despite this, we tried to collect a rather extensive list of phones for you, which in our opinion will be able to upgrade to Android Pie. To make it easily finding the necessary information, we broke the article on the sections, each of which is dedicated to a specific manufacturer. The following information described is just our guesses that do not have official confirmations (if not specified inverse).

Google

Let's start with Google. We usually manage to predict most of all that is associated with this company. It is for this reason that we placed Google at the very beginning. Guess which phones will be able to upgrade to Android PIE is easy and for the reason that Google has already reported which models will not exactly receive an update.

  • Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL - already updated to Android PIE.
  • Pixel and Pixel XL - already updated to Android Pie.
  • According to unofficial information, any Android One The phone released after October 2017 will be able to upgrade to PIE this fall.
  •

That's all. Google promised for two years to fully support devices released under its own brand (to the Pixel model), and to produce all the necessary updates for the security system for about three years. As for Nexux 6P and Nexus 5X, they already have three years, so they will not be able to upgrade to Pie. Well, it was great phones.

Android beta test program

after information appeared on What other companies will be able to take part in the Android beta test program, Google announced the PIE update (the first time the operating system was known as simply "P"). After that, the following phones reported (in addition to Google Pixel and Pixel 2) will receive full support:

This means that all the above devices will be able to be updated to Android Pie in the very near future. In fact, Essential Ph-1 will receive an update almost simultaneously with Pixel and Pixel 2.

Samsung

each year Samsung produces much more models only in one flagship line (like Galaxy S) than Google generally. But to predict which devices will be able to update to the Pie version, not so difficult. In many ways because Samsung is a very predictable company.

Every year they offer the public four "premium" models. In 2018, it is Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 +, Galaxy S9 Active (which, as we know, will be available quite soon) and Galaxy Note 9. Even when Samsun sold 15 different models from the Galaxy S6 line, then when the next update is right They all received the same support.

The date of the upcoming update is not so difficult to predict, and most likely it will occur one year after the date of the official Announcement of Android Pie (which took place in March 2018). Some European models will be able to update first, but in a month the update will be available in some other region. As soon as Samsung is convinced that there are no problems, it will be launched globally. As a result, it turns out that Android Pie will appear on Samsung just a year after the official announcement.

  • The Galaxy S9 and S9+ (and any S9 Active coming later) will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.
  • Galaxy Note 9 will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.
  • The Galaxy S8 and S8+, as well as the Galaxy S8 Active, will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.
  • Galaxy Note 8 update to Android Pie.

But something else is interesting. There are other Galaxy phones with an impressive regional fan base. In India, for example, the Galaxy J models are hugely successful because they offer much more features than the Galaxy S at a lower price. So Samsung will do the same with the Galaxy S and Note lines. Most likely, the update will receive random "J" models. We are not yet completely sure on what basis they are selected.

LG

As soon as we need to predict the next action again LG, the company becomes a trump card. As with Samsung, LG has a few "important" models that are constantly talked about in the press and a huge number of budget models that almost no one remembers.

In addition, LG has mentioned some optimizations, which we hope will give the development team enough time to install all the necessary updates on devices in time without any additional problems.

  • LG G7 ThinQ will be updated to Android Pie.
  • LG V30 (including the V30S model or others like it that may come out in the future) will be upgraded to Android Pie.
  • LG V20 will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.
  • LG G6 will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.

Older models like the G5 and V10 no longer receive any attention from the company and the press, so it's unlikely they'll be able to upgrade to Pie in the very near future. LG makes several phones that are hard to call flagships, but we know that the company is willing to spend time and money updating some of them.

We also believe that LG strengthens its position and releases phones only when it is completely sure that it is time for a new model, and not just randomly poking at the calendar.

Huawei

Actions Huawei not so predictable simply. Unlike LG and Samsung, which abandoned the Asian method of making smartphones for their divisions in the United States, Huawei did not do this. Therefore, for those of us who closer to Western thinking, some of the company's actions may seem a bit strange.

As soon as we begin to seem that we are surely guessed the company's flagship models that will receive a lion's share, financing and the attention of the press, Huawei immediately changes. And you know, there is even something there.

For some reason, Huawei changed the usual way to redistribute funds and support devices running the EMUI operating system (Custom version of Android from Huawei), back in 2017. Therefore, it seems to us that it will have a serious impact on what kind of phones will be able to upgrade to Android Pie.

  • Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be updated before Android Pie.
  • Honor 9 and Honor View 10 will be able to upgrade to Android PIE. We hope (but not sure) that this is waiting for the Honor 8 Pro and 7x model.
  • Huawei Mate 9 Most likely, will be updated to Android Pie, but this is not accurate.

This also applies to various models of Plus, Pro and Porsche, and due to the fact that the Custom EMUI operating system is very different from other software, users are hardly known, What exactly the version of Android they use until they see it. In addition, if you believe rumors, then EMUI 9 will not be able to start at any other older equipment, something that will come out soon.

Motorola

In 2017 Motorola behaved a little strange. And it is still gently said. The company has released about 100 phones in North and South America, as well as in Western Europe (editorial note: In fact, there were 9 of them). Among them are amazing and simply magnificent Moto E4 and Moto X4, the price of which varied in the $ 100 area. As a result, they managed to release one of the most promising phones (excellent from Google), which can be used in conjunction with Project FI, as well as all Z and Force devices, to work on which you can all rest. All this Motorola managed to implement without special damage to the G series, which has been produced by the company for many years.

Moto phone, which comes under the brand Lenovo, gradually become increasingly similar to Thinkpad, calmly existing in the niche busy and dealing with their affairs. And, by the way, he copes with his task perfectly.

On August 15, Motorola published a blog post detailing which phones will be able to upgrade to Pie starting this fall. Among them:

  • Moto Z3
  • Moto Z3 Play
  • Moto Z2 Force
  • Moto Z2 Play
  • Moto X4
  • Moto G6 Plus
  • Moto G6
  • Moto G6 Play

Although the list is quite impressive, notable omissions include models such as the Moto E5, E5 Plus and E5 Play.

OnePlus

Now OnePlus is on the verge of becoming something much more than just a niche brand. But it is unlikely that the company will forget due to what it gained success. Namely, fast updates of their own products, which customers are so eager for. And while it doesn't always work out as quickly as we'd like, that doesn't mean OnePlus isn't doing the best they can. Sometimes they install updates on their devices even too quickly...

List of OnePlus smartphones that can upgrade to Android Pie:

  • OnePlus 3]
  • OnePlus 3T
  • OnePlus 5
  • OnePlus 5T
  • OnePlus 6

Nokia

Hi, Android Pie will be available for the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. Roll-out will be phased as usual to secure quality delivery. Nokia 7 Plus is part of the Android One program, which guarantees two years of software updates, including Pie.

— Nokia Mobile (@NokiaMobile) August 8, 2018

Apparently, Nokia understands that almost all of their customers crave quick updates. Like OnePlus, they should listen to them while trying to find new buyers, caring about the success of the company. And here is the list of Nokia smartphones that can upgrade to Android Pie:

HTC

for disappointing sales, the further fate of smartphones HTC is still a big question. But given that the company has no plans to release new products in the next couple of months, it will definitely want to upgrade four of its smartphones to Android Pie. Therefore, a list of those devices that will receive an update includes such models as:

WE'RE PLEASED AS PIE TO CONFIRM UPDATES TO ANDROID PIE FOR THE HTC U12 +, U11 +, U11, AND U11 LIFE (Android One). TimeFrames for Roll-Out Will Be Announced in Due Course. WE CAN'T WAIT TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF Google's Freshest Slice of Android! Pic.twitter.com/mpjepfegne

- HTC (@HTC) August 10, 2018

That's all. HTC stated that "over time" will release a detailed schedule for updates. Therefore, we will try to convey to you information as quickly as possible.

Sony

Sony has already told about their plans to update smartphones to the version of PIE August 16, 2018. As expected, the first update will receive the flagships. Therefore, since November of the current year, the following models will be updated before Android PIE:

  • Sony Xperia XZ2
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium
  • Sony Xperia XZ1
  • Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

But this is not all. If you have Sony Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra or Xa2 Plus, that is, it makes sense to expect that PIE will appear at the beginning of 2019.

Mentioned

we listed those companies that most of all familiar to the Western public and are famous for selling devices based on the Android operating system. But it is worth understanding that this is not the only companies that produce smartphones. Among the good hundreds of other firms, there are other worthy of our attention:

  • All phones operating on the Android Go are most likely able to upgrade to PIE, But only after Google finalizes and optimizes the operating system so that it becomes suitable for use on devices with more scant technical specifications.
  • BlackBerry Keyone Most likely will not be able to upgrade to Android Pie, which you will not say about the Key2 model.
  • Someone from XDA will certainly get to update its Nexus One to Android Pie, but it is not even for sure.

As we have already mentioned earlier, for the most part, all these are only our guesses based on previous actions of companies, sometimes rumors and informal information. But the only thing we know for sure is how difficult it will be to wait for the long-awaited updates. After all, we all love to receive everything here and now. So we want to see Android Pie on our smartphones as soon as possible.
