Sennheiser CX 400BT TWS headset review: Premium sound and convenience of settings

In the spring of 2020, Sennheiser has released the flagship model TWS headphones - Momentum True Wireless 2. For those who did not need the entire functionality of the top headset, and as high quality sound for more Low price I wanted to get headphones CX 400BT. We will talk about them about them in this review.

Sennheiser CX 400BT is a TWS headset with 7 mm dynamic transducers, sensory control, the ability to set up an equalizerand a total autonomy of 20 hours (together with Case). From the older CX 400BT model, there is no lack of active noise cancellation, transparency mode, spray protection and less work from the battery.

At the same time, the price tag of the junior device is lower, which will delight those who are primarily looking for high-quality sound, and only after that - a wide functionality. At the time of writing, the Sennheiser CX 400BT review is an average of 17,900 rubles. However, until the end of February, in the official online store , Sennheiser.ru operates Special price on headphones - 14,990 rubles

Equipment

Sennheiser CX 400BT headphones are supplied in a blue-white cardboard box with enumeration of key features and other useful information.

Inside there is a headset in the charging case, a short guide for setting up, safety instructions, cable USB-C and 3 pairs of interchangeable incubuser (+ one pair immediately installed on headphones).

everything is packaged neatly, and the attentive approach of the manufacturer to its products is visible even in such banal trifles like packing bags embouchure. Each pair is not simply packed separately: all bags are labeled size - XS, S, L.

Design and Ergonomics

In my case headphones And the charging case is made in black, but there is a sale model in the white version.

Case is made of high quality and pleasant to the touch of plastic. On the outside of the cover, a logo is applied, and on the internal name of the company. The surface is matte, so it does not get dirty that, in my opinion, a big plus. The cap is magnetic, does not hang out and closes quite tightly. On the back of the USB-Cconnector to connect to charging, the indicator and the button to turn it on. The LED is green, if the case is charged, yellow in the process of charging and red with full discharge. Headphone charge level is displayed in the Sennheiser Smart Control application.

Inside there are two seats with magnetic fasteners and contacts. I was pleased with the fact that the headphones are easily installed in their place. They do not have to twist them for a long time to understand how they should be placed. Such an unpleasant experience was with a headset from another company; Sennheiser has everything more convenient.

Headphones are made From the same matte plastic. The outer part, which is the sensor panel, has a glossy coating. It is a bit marked, but not so much so that I had to rub it away every minute. On the inside there are contacts to connect to charging, the status and designations of the right and left headset. On the right earphone on the control panel there is a microphone hole. From below, you can see three more holes, followed by the microphone too. Ambushur here are removable, they keep them tight. To remove them, it will be necessary to make small efforts, which means it will not accidentally lose them. Inside you can see the gasket that protects against the ingestion of the garbage.

Ergonomic body shape. The sound is not very long, comes at an angle. If you look at the device, it is easy to see that there are several small bends on the housing made for a more comfortable fit in the ear.

In general, the overall impression of assembly and ergonomics is exceptionally positive. The headphones sit down well in the ears, do not press, do not fall out and, despite the fact that they are rather large, do not chop out of the ears and look organically. The sizes of the case allow you to carry it in your pocket. Headphones inside are sitting tightly, do not hang out. For the design and convenience of using Sennheiser CX 400BT deserve a solid five.

Connection and configuration

When you first start, the headphones go to the pairing mode, which is accompanied by flashing the LED alternately blue and red, as well as voice communications. For the first time, the headset should be connected standard by Bluetooth through the smartphone settings.

For additional settings, you need to install the Sennheiser Smart Control application available for iOS and Android. When the first conjugation in Smart Control, a short instruction will appear. It can be skipped, but it is better to familiarize yourself with it, because it takes this process just a couple of minutes. From the manual, the user learns how to propose headphones in the ears and how to manage.

In the application, you can independently change control settings, log in to the equalizer to adjust the sound to itself and save the settings for further use. For example, you can make several presets for different genres of music and in the future quickly between them switch. Also in the application is activated by auto calls, the gestures are turned off, headphones are reset.

An interesting option is the choice of sound sources. With it, you can quickly switch from your smartphone to a laptop or tablet via Smart Control. This, of course, is not Multipoint, but it is much more convenient than disconnecting the headphones from the phone and then connecting them to another device.

I would like to mention the EQ settings separately. Two options are available. In the first, the user simply drags the point to the desired position and immediately notices the sound changes. This is convenient for those who do not have any knowledge in the equalizer settings. Everything is very simple: dragged a point - listened, liked it - left it. The second window offers a standard equalizer, but there are only three bands. Not much, but still better than nothing.

It is also worth noting that the headphones are divided into master and slave. In the case of the CX 400BT, the right one is the main one. If you need to use the headset in mono mode, then you have to leave it. Otherwise, both are disabled.

Operation

The headset is operated using the touch panels. They work on any accidental touch, but, in my opinion, they are still better than buttons. Pressing the physical button with a simple touch will not work, so you will either have to hold the earpiece or press it into your ear, which is inconvenient in both cases.

During the use of the headset, the sensor always worked correctly, easily distinguishing between single and double taps. He also understands short-term touch and long-term touch.

I will not list the full list of functions, since you can change them for yourself (the default settings are visible in the screenshots). I will only note that with the help of gestures you can activate the voice assistant, switch tracks, adjust the volume, accept and reject calls, pause music.

Summing up the above, I can note that the control of the model is convenient, touches are recognized accurately. I'm glad you can customize it. Initially, there were doubts about the expense of the sensor, but, according to the result, I personally like this option more than ordinary physical buttons.

Headset in

Sennheiser CX 400BT promise premium Sound, like the older model. I did not have it, so it's not that this is true, I can not. But from the point of view the sound headset CX 400BT made me completely. As usual, listened to a variety of genres, including pop music, classics, nu-metal, electronics. Everything sounds cool, if somewhere something is missing, an equalizer comes to the rescue. However, I turned to him for the first time, configuring the sound immediately for myself.

I can't boast of perfect hearing, but I am a music fan, so I have an idea how certain compositions should sound for me. In most cases, Sennheiser CX 400BT was able to make tracks brighter. Electronic and heavy music sounds especially well. There is a saturated bass (familiar to me via wired Sennheiser headphones, which I usually use), not drowning everything else. I was pleased with the volume. Usually it is not enough for her, but in these headphones - just right, and sometimes even too loud.

Active noise reduction The headphones do not have, but no extraneous sounds on the street or in public transport I did not interfere with enjoy your favorite songs. The connection in any conditions is not lost.

There are no complaints to the microphone - the interlocutors note that no matter what I am in an apartment or go on the street near the road, the voice sounds clean, without the effect of echo or any other distortion. The interlocutor is also heard perfectly.

As for the delay, when connected to the smartphone, neither in games, nor in films nor when listening to music there were no problems. But when connecting to a laptop on Windows, there was a lag during the game. Given the fact that this is not a game model, I do not consider it a disadvantage, because the headset is designed primarily for listening to music.

Autonomy fully complies with the declared manufacturer. In listening to music and minor conversations, the battery lasted even a little more than 7 hours. The charged cover was enough to fully restore the capacitance of the headset twice, that is, the total turned out to be promised 20 hours. Charging on average takes about one and a half hours. Also there is a quick charging mode - for ten minutes the capacity is recruited for an hour of work.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, I would like to note that Sennheiser CX 400BT is a headset that has fully arranged and even surpassed the waiting for sound quality and volume. She has decent autonomy, there are no questions for landing in the ears. Even after a few hours of use, it does not interfere with what is very important to me. I also liked the simplicity of connection and convenience of settings.

In general, I relate to with wireless headphones with a fairing fraction of skepticism, since they need to be constantly charged, they are always disconnected or not connected from the first time, and the sound quality They are most often inferior to wired models. With Sennheiser CX 400BT nothing like this, and this device shake my love for wired models. I can't vouch that this headset will like everyone and everyone, but if you look at the TWS headset, it costs at least not to write off CX 400BT with accounts. Perhaps this is exactly what you are looking for.
