Samsung Galaxy S II Plus review

The South Korean company in January presented an updated version of the ex-flagship smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S II Plus. The novelty received a new chipset with Broadcomm GPU, as well as some other features and improvements. So let's try to focus on the fact that good appeared in the device, and what performance Galaxy S II Plus will be able to provide.

appearance

SAMSUNG smartphone Galaxy S II Plus retains the same dimensions as the original, including a thin profile - 125.3x66.1x8.5 mm. The version with NFC is slightly thicker, but it is only 8.9 mm. But weight increased a little and now it is 121 grams instead of 116 grams from the classic Samsung i9100.

You will receive an interesting smartphone that combines the design of Galaxy S II and the Galaxy S III finish. The result of this mixing turned out to be surprisingly good.

The front surface of the device almost all occupies the display over which the speaker is located, the sensors of approximation and illumination, the front camera and the company's logo, under it - control buttons. From one side there is a power / lock button, and from the other - the sound volume key and the cord is the cord. In the upper end - 3.5 mm, the output for headphones, and on the lower - port microUSB.

On the back side, you can see a camera with a LED flash, slits for the dynamics and logo of the company.

Note that the assembly of the smartphone is performed quite well: there are no screens when working and the backlash.

Performance and software

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus is based on a 2-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz with a graphics of Broadcomm VideoOcore IV GPU (in the original smartphone, MALI-400MP was used), 1 GB RAM. The novelty comes with the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system "out of the box."

Benchmark PI showed good results by turning the old gadget version.

Oddly enough, in the test of multi-core processors LINPACK was shown a very bad result, much worse than the original smartphone Galaxy S II. But it seems to be explained by the fact that this benchmark has problems with devices running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

In the QUADRANT test, the test gadget easily bypass its predecessor, yielding only 4-nuclear devices.

Glbenchmark showed that Broadcomm VideoOcore IV HW GPU could not exceed the MALI-400MP graphics, but it turned out to be very close to it.

Finally, Sunspider and BrowSermark 2 tests showed different results. And we expect that after the transition of Galaxy S II on Android 4.1 Jell Bean, he will be able to catch up with Galaxy S II Plus according to indicators.

Note that the device has 8 GB of the built-in memory, which can be increased by cards microSD (max. 64 GB).

Smartphone supports work Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC (optional), 3G networks, GPS / A-GPS and FM radio.

The device has pre-installed software: browser, email client. Programs for integration with social networks, audio and video players and other applications and games.

Screen

Permission from the matrix 800x480 pixels, which gives a density - 217 PPI, this is not so bad and there is something to see. Of course, the resolution of 1080x720 pixels in the screens of modern flagships shows a picture much better and clearly. But in general, the display is good, although not so impressive as it was when Galaxy S II only appeared on store shelves. Samsung Galaxy S II Plus uses a 4.3-inch capacitive display, performed using the super AMOLED technology and protected by a special glass Gorilla Glass, the same as in the original smartphone. This means that you can count on excellent viewing angles, excellent contrast and excellent levels of brightness.
